TOP rugby action returns to upcountry regions Gulu and Mbale after the launch of the 2013 Nile Special Uganda Cup saw fixtures drawn to be hosted in Mbale, Lira and Gulu respectively.
As the tournament kicks-off on Saturday G4S Pirates will be hosted in Gulu against Gulu Elephant and next weekend sees Xfm Impis travel to Lira to face Lira Bulls.
According to the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa, the new Uganda Cup structure is meant to widen the sport and take the game upcountry.
“We will be having super 8 teams travel upcountry and have their players play against those players up there which I think helps in talent identification and awareness of the sport,” Kasasa said.
Kobs are Uganda Cup holders having defeated traditional rivals Heathens 14-13 in a bruising final last year at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
