TWO people were reportedly killed in a fresh land clashes between two families owning land in Doho rice scheme in Butaleja district.

 

Hamba Muniru Buliambiro, 60, a resident of Doho Muhwa village and Haumba Mutwahire a resident of Namunasa village in Kachonga Sub County were killed during the deadly clashes involving two rival factions belonging to the family of Haji Malaiki Koire, a prominent business man in Tororo town and that of Hajji Fadhi.

 

Michael Odongo the Malaba police spokesperson said the victims were lynched by the mob that rounded them up in the early morning of Sunday from the disputed gardens they had hired for rice growing.

 

He said the two families have been involved in a longstanding dispute over boundaries which the local leaders and court have tried in vain to mediate but the owners keep on reviving it whenever it’s settled.

 

Odongo said Musa Muladwaya the LC1 chairperson of Doho Muhwa village in Kachonga Sub County has been arrested for inciting the mob

 

Odongo said as a matter of urgency, police has taken over control of the disputed land until clear boundaries are demarcated to avoid more bloodshed.

 

He disclosed that besides the LC1 boss, police have also managed to arrest 25 people who were suspected to have participated in the murder of the two victims.
