Construction and upgrading of gravel roads up to 9.4km in Makindye Ssabagabo in Wakiso district was launched Thursday.

Work on the 2.2km stretch from Namasuba trading center on Entebbe Road to Ndejje has commenced.

Chief engineer at the ministry of works, Eng. Robert Lwanga represented minister John Byabagambi at the function that was witnessed by district officials including the CAO, David Kigenyi, RDC  Ian Kyeyune and the  chairman LCV Matia Lwanga Bwanika with lower division officials and the public.

Eng Lwanga called on residents to desist from vandalizing fuel and equipment.

He said the ministry is providing the machinery and technical staff to the project.

Funds have been sourced from the sh10b quota to the district from the Uganda Road Fund, according Dr. Eng. Andrew Naimanye who represented the organisation.

“The road will bridge the massive economic divide between the urban dwellings in Lubowa along Entebbe Road and Ndejje. It will also increase the resource base as the property value of housing will go high to benefit owners and the government through commodity taxes and property tax,” noted Naimanye.

Residents have also been warned to be on the lookout for shoddy work and report, and also to work in a good relation with the engineers.

The 9.4km road network will connect Namasuba, Ndejje, Lubugumu, Kitiko, Mutungo and Kibiri to the new Entebbe Highway under construction.

Each kilometre is estimated to cost sh1.7b, according to Eng. Sam Mwesigwa of Wakiso district.

The first phase of 2.2km is expected to be completed in four months.
