Over 100 land titles for city plots secured from the Uganda Land Commission will be cancelled. This follows a court ruling empowering the Kampala District Land Board, as a constitutional body, to handle land matters in the city.

The ruling comes at a time when the commission is renewing leases and issuing titles for city plots, after the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the board failed to agree on which body should manage city land.

Members of the board went to court to block KCCA from disbanding it. Since then, the commission started renewing leases, taking over the functions of the board.

However, this week, the Land Division of the High Court, presided over by Justice Solomy Bbosa, stated that the board was established under the Constitution and until the Constitution is amended to do away with its existence, it would remain an independent entity.

Yusuf Nsibambi, the chairman of the board, said the people whose land titles would be cancelled include those in Luzira, Bugolobi, Nakasero, Buganda Road and Industrial area.
