Muwema demands accountability from FUFA

AS top FUFA executives quit the federation, Uganda Super League director Fred Muwema has issued a stern release stating that those throwing in the towel should first account for football funds.

Muwema’s call comes shortly after Anthony Kimuli, a FUFA vice president in charge of finance, refused to take up an offer of first vice president on the Moses Magogo-led executive.

The new team takes charge on August 31.

“It should not be only the gate collections and Cranes games that should be accounted for but an account must be given of all government grants/donations, FIFA grants, Kakungulu Cup sponsorship, competition fees, broadcast sponsorships, Cranes T-shirt sales etc,” reads Muwema’s release in part.

Barely a month after FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa announced that he would not seek another term of office, Kimuli on Wednesday also broke news that he was pulling out.

Mulindwa, who nevertheless promised to continue supporting football, endorsed Magogo, his vice president in charge of administration, as his successor.

But Muwema accuses Magogo of being a key player in football mismanagement and therefore not being qualified to run FUFA.

Muwema also calls upon government to establish a national football body because the current federation as it stands is a limited company.

FUFA spokesman Rogers Mulindwa described Muwema’s views as comical.

He said the right forum to raise these issues is in the assembly, which is due on August 31, and that Kimuli and Mulindwa will be present to account.

“Interestingly, Muwema has been a member of the same assembly before but at no point did he raise the same issues. Isn’t that a contradiction?” wondered Mulindwa.

“By the way, if Muwema does not believe in Magogo, he can mobilise with the the assembly and have him rejected. The assembly as FUFA’s supreme body has these powers.”
