FOUR drivers including top guns Duncan Mubiru and Nasser Mutebi have been banned for six years for bringing the sport into disrepute.

The others are Geoffrey Nsamba and John Burrows. In a television interview in which they reportedly undermined a Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) organised Mukwano Super Sprint which was held at Festino last Sunday attracted the ban.

A source that attended the FMU executive meeting at Lugogo on Tuesday told New Vision Sport that motorsport governing body president George Kagimu would make the announcement later today.

"They signed an undertaking to refrain from activities that bring the sport in disrepute which they breached. They are free to appeal the decision," a source said.

Last week Mubiru who is the president of Uganda Rally Drivers Club (UMRDC) had been invited to the competitions committee this evening to answer the same accusation.

"FMU could not wait for the competition's committee to sit given the manner in which drivers conducted themselves," the official explained.

The on-and-off standoff between FMU and the competitors dated back to 2011. The two parties have clashed over financial, management, leadership and technical issues.

Duncan Mubiru has expressed his surprise and disappointment at the federation's decision to ban the drivers.

"Why don’t they give me an opportunity to depend myself? They wrote to me and I was ready to appear before the competitions committee today. They claim I gave wrong information to the media but I have video evidence to show that the Festino double track is dangerous."

"Mangat and Ssebuguzi nearly collided. Thousands of spectators witnessed it during the Martyrs Day Rally. If there is no justice I am left with no choice but to resort to courts of law,” Mubiru fumed.
