Former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has advised his colleagues in opposition to pay attention to the issues government has failed to do and show how they would do them when they get to the helm of power instead of plotting to overthrow the government by armed force.

He was speaking to New Vision at Parliament on Tuesday about his preparations for 2016 and the calls by the former coordinator of intelligence services, Gen David Sejusa, to the opposition political parties to boycott the forthcoming 2016 polls if the electoral reforms they are demanding are not implemented.

"I want peace in my country because Kakiri suffered most from the war (in 1986) and there are over 730 human skulls in the area. We shouldn't have politics of fighting; overthrowing the government militarily. For me I want to use a person's vote to get into power. That is my principle," he said.

He said he will work with any peace-loving Uganda in the 2016 general elections to cause change in the country.

"Let's show people what we can do that has not been done by the government and how we would do it when we get into power instead of planning to fight," he added.

While speaking at the Democratic Party headquarters in Kampala last week, Gen Sejusa said:

"This time, the message for change must be different. If these issues (reforms) are not resolved, we shall not have elections."

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Dr. Kizza Besigye has also on many occasions ruled out the use of armed force to oust the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and its leader President Museveni from power, with a belief that armed force could capture power but later stray away from its original mission of liberation.
