Gulu Hospital lacks a gynaecologist

AT the moment the hospital relies on a gynaecologist who works at the Gulu University faculty of medicine which sometimes makes it difficult for her to balance the two roles

GULU Regional Referral hospital does not have a gynaecologist at the facility, Gulu woman MP Betty Aol Ocan has revealed.

 

Ocan said she was worried for women, especially expectant mothers who need specialist assistance.

 

Ocan noted that at the moment the hospital relies on a gynaecologist who works at the Gulu University faculty of medicine which sometimes makes it difficult for her to balance the two roles.

 

She appealed to the ministry of health to  address the issue so that the problem of the mothers dying during delivery is averted.

 

Dr Paska Apiyo who is the Deputy Director of the hospital confirmed that the absence of gynaecologists at the hospital saying those who were employed there in the past left for greener pastures in South Sudan.

 

Dr. Apiyo said the position was advertised but no one applied making it difficult to fill the gap.

 

She however revealed that they have placed a request to the Health Service Commission to have the vacancy filled.

 

She also said medical officers are helping in the maternity unit for the meantime.
