KCCA midfielder Baker Lukooya has labeled his team's victory in the Azam Uganda Premier League as a sign of teamwork.

Lukooya who struck his first goal for the club he joined early this year from Kira Young, made the remarks after beating Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) 2-0 in the league at Namboole on Friday evening.

"Our performance came as a result of team work. This result will give us confidence ahead of the Uganda Cup game against Kyambogo on Sunday," Lukooya stated.

Joseph Ochaya added to Lukooya’s strike to make it 2-0 for the reigning league champions.

However, SCVU coach Morley Byekwaso blamed his side for missing so many clear cut scoring opportunities.

"We played well despite the fact that some of my players were injured. We also created so many chances but never took them," Byekwaso said.

Elsewhere, SC Villa coach Ibrahim Kirya registered his first win as the coach of the record champions after defeating Lweza 3-1 at Wankulukuku.

Kirya had gone three games without winning since replacing Sam Simbwa.

Ronald Muganga, Erias Ssekisambu and Abdul Kasule had a goal each for the Jogoos while Moses Ndawula scored a consolation for Lweza.

In Buikwe, Vipers maintained top spot in the league after beating Simba 2-0 while BUL defeated Kira Young 1-0 at Kakindu. Patrick Asiku scored for the Jinja based side.

At Kavumba Recreation grounds, home side Soana beat Bright Stars 2-1 in a highly charged encounter.
