Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) chairman Dunstan Nsubuga has insisted that the national league will not commence until all confirmed teams have fully paid their participation fee.

“Some clubs have formally confirmed their participation in this year’s league, however the league cannot commence until payments have been received,” Nsubuga said during the annual general meeting held at the Uganda Olympics’ Committee (UOC) on Saturday at Lugogo.

He added, “We have always been kind to most of the teams in the past years but this has kept affecting the smooth running of the activities.”

Nsubuga mentioned this basing on the fact that last year only two clubs, Kampala hockey club and Weatherhead are the only ones that cleared their dues while others including Rockets, Simba, Wanainchi took part in the league while in arrears.

The league is scheduled to start on Saturday, April 18 but this is likely to be rescheduled following a number of different club member’s reaction to the short notice.

At the same meeting, UHA officials and club members failed to reach a conclusion over a membership fee that is said to have been raised from sh120,000 to a proposed sh2m for new members.

“We wanted it raised to an amount that will avoid unserious members from joining the league because it seems some teams just join for fun with no serous motive,” Nsubuga stated.

But the decision to weather the fee is hiked or remains will be tabled at a later period after the meeting was postponed.
