A report released by ministry of works and transport to Police indicates that the fire that gutted Crest Foam factory last month was a result of welding that went wrong.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said police have received a technical report from ministry of works which confirms that welding was the cause of the fire.

"We received a technical report from ministry of works and the findings indicate that welding was the cause of the fire at Crest Foam Factory," said Onyango.

Onyango also said that they (police) are still waiting for other two technical reports from Umeme and Government Analytical Laboratory and thereafter, shall decide the next case of action.

In relation to welding, Onyango said police is still searching for a man only identified as Nsubuga, who is accused of being behind the welding activities at the factory on that fateful day.

"We are still looking for the welder.  We were told he was hiding in his village but when we went there, we could not find him. He has disappeared up to now and we are still tracing him," Onyango noted.

On March 9, Crest Foam Factory was gutted by fire killing 6 people and property worth sh6b lost.
