Across section of students from different universities in Kampala and recent graduates hailed Vision’s Group’s upcoming fifth Pakasa Forum as timely given the rampant employment among young people in the country.

A number of them expressed gratitude to Vision Group for taking to fight against unemployment to universities and said they would utilize the opportunity to learn new tricks on how to create livelihoods for themselves.

“Sometimes you get puzzled about what you will do after school especially with the high level of unemployment in Uganda. But with this forum, we will get to hear from fellow young people who have stepped out to start their own businesses how we too can do it,” said Martha Kenyange, a first year student of Commerce at Makerere University Business School (MUBS.

The forum, which has been organized in partnership with Youth to Business (Y2B) Forum, a function of AIESEC in Uganda, will take place from 8:00am to 2:00pm this Saturday, April 11, at the Kampala Parents’ School in Kampala.

The forum, which will feature a panel of successful young entrepreneurs, is geared towards inspiring university students, recent graduates and those in secondary schools, into thinking of creative means of earning a living.

Racheal Kembabazi, a fresh graduate of business administration (BBA) from Makerere University said she expected the forum to empower young people to be more financially independent.

“I expect to learn from the different speakers how to start up my own business and not focus on searching for jobs alone. This will help not only me but also create opportunities for others,” Kembabazi said.

For some of the students, the uncertainty that surrounds their fate after school will be the reason they will attend the forum.

“With the high level of unemployment, some of these courses we are pursuing at university cannot guarantee us jobs. So, we need this forum to learn when, where and how we can take charge of our own destinies,” said Joan Nsiimo, a student at Ndejje University, Kampala branch.

Enock Semakula, a first year student at MUBS believes the forum will give him the inspiration he has always wanted to start his own business.

“I have always wanted to start up a poultry business but was talked out of it by my friends who only highlighted challenges involved in business. I want to know how these people (Panelists) have successfully done what they do,” he says.

With a dream of becoming one of the affluent business ladies in the country, Ivy Nakkazi, also a student of MUBS hopes to learn tips on how to start and sustain a business, an opportunity she says could have only been availed by the Pakasa Forum.
