Iganga accident claims seven

Seven people died on the spot after an omnibus they were travelling in rammed into a trailer at Namasoga near Bulanga trading centre on Wednesday evening. The accident occurred about 7.50pm when the Iganga-bound taxi registration number, UAN 119F, crashed into a trailer KBT 699T/ ZE 0809 as the driver attempted to overtake at a designated black spot.

IGANGA - Seven people died on the spot after an omnibus they were travelling in rammed into a trailer at Namasoga near Bulanga trading centre on Wednesday evening.

The accident occurred about 7.50pm when the Iganga-bound taxi registration number, UAN 119F, crashed into a trailer KBT 699T/ ZE 0809 as the driver attempted to overtake at a designated black spot.

According to William Bariyo, the Iganga district traffic police chief, the driver of the omnibus was speeding.

Bariyo identified the dead as Sadiq Byakika (driver), Muzamiru Muwabe (teacher at Nakigo S.S.), Henry Kiribaki (local youth leader) and Zakia Daffa (employee of Busoga University).

“We also have two corpses of babies as well as an unidentified male corpse. All the dead were taken to Iganga hospital for post-mortem before bodies are released to relatives,” Bariyo disclosed to New Vision on Thursday.

By press time the wreckages of the two vehicles had been towed to Iganga police station in Iganga town.

Dr. David Muwanguzi, Iganga district health officer revealed that 13 survivors are under medical care at Iganga hospital.
