Shock engulfed residents of Kasana in Luwero Town Council when thugs attacked a police post and hacked to death a police constable and seriously injured a woman sergeant.

Detective Constable Geoffrey Baala, in his late 20s died instantly when yet unidentified thugs attacked a police post where he was manning the counter with his colleague, Sgt. Sarah Acan, who also sustained serious injuries.

The incident occurred at about 2.30am on Wednesday when an unidentified number of men armed with machetes disguised as if they had some complaints and engaged the two police staff at the counter, but later pulled out their weapons and started hacking the unarmed police personnel.

Acan was later rushed to Kiwoko Health Center where she was receiving treatment while Baala’s body was taken to the mortuary.

Police spokesman, Fred Enanga, confirmed the attack and said a team of security personnel had been dispatched to the scene to start with investigations.

He said the motive of the attack had not yet been confirmed but the assailants were involved in a scuffle with the two police personnel as they wanted to grab keys to gain access to the armory (gunroom).

The officer in charge of the post, Corporal Edgar Tuhairwe has been arrested and was still being detained at Luweero police station. He is being accused of neglect of duty and cowardice for failure to help his colleagues.

Tuhairwe who was in possession of a gun was allegedly taking a nap in a vehicle parked in the yard at the time of the incident and did not hear anything that took place.
