Jun 17, 2013

My knees and shoulders have been paining for the last three years. An X-ray test revealed I had arthritis of the knees. The pain keeps changing from one knee to another. In order to ease the pain, I massage the knee with an ointment.

Dear Doctor,
My knees and shoulders have been paining for the last three years. An  X-ray test revealed I had arthritis of the knees. The pain keeps changing from one knee to another. In order to ease the pain, I massage the knee with an ointment.

What can I do? Is there any treatment?
Kennedy

Dear Kennedy,
Joint pain is a symptom which requires medical investigation. This could be a systemic disorder involving the connective tissues, resulting in arthritis. Infective conditions and metabolic disorders can also cause Joint pain.

Migratory of joint pain could be due to rheumatic fever, but this depends on the age of the individual. Seek help from a qualified specialist, preferably a rheumatologist.
