Public transport was paralyzed on Monday morning following Mbale taxi drivers's strike.

The Police in Mbale has deployed heavily on Mbale-Soroti road to restore calm after drivers demonstrated in protest of the new traffic penalties charges.

Heavily armed Policemen were seen on patrol along Mbale-Soroti in anticipation that the drivers would attack. The drivers are protesting the charges saying they are prohibitive.

The drivers staged demonstration in different trading centres beating up fellow drivers and conductors who went against the strike.

The Mbale-Kampala Multiple taxi drivers’ association managing director, Ahamada Magona condemned the act and appealed to the drivers and stage mangers to call off the demonstration and use the right channels to address their grievances.

Magona urged the drivers to address their grievances through the right channels adding that he had contacted the office of the RDC who had advised the drivers to put their complaints in writing.
