Medical students' exams start

Over 7,622 medical students on Monday began writing the Allied Health Examinations countrywide.


The third set of examinations is to be done in 45 accredited centres, running up to July 6.  

The exams will be done in medical laboratory technology, pharmacy, orthopaedics, radiography, physiotherapy, environmental health sciences and nursing, of which successful students will be awarded certificates and diplomas in various disciplines.

The executive secretary Uganda Allied Health Examinations Board (UAHEB), Kato Kimoga warned supervisors and coordinators against getting involved in exam malpractices.

He sounded the warning while briefing 162 selected invigilators and coordinators from different parts of the country, at UAHEB head offices in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb.

“We are going to be very strict and whoever is caught cheating will be dealt with in accordance to the law,” Kimoga said.

He said the country needs quality health workers who are qualified because they deal with human life, stressing that they needed to phase out those who are incompetent.

Elizabeth Gabona, the director for higher education in the education ministry, commended UAHEB for harmonizing the curricula of allied health training and improving the quality of training and assessment.

She said the ministry of education, is committed to push for better health training for a better health services in the country
UAHEB was established by the BTVET Act 2008 to streamline, regulate and coordinate examinations and awards in Allied Health Profession in Uganda.
