If you were not convinced that the KIU Titans already had the most talented squad in the National Basketball League (NBL), this will sway you.
KIU are in the final stages of finalising the transfer of Henry Malinga from the Warriors.
With Geoffrey Soro and Norman Blick having been KIU’s first major acquisitions of the off season, signing the best post player in the history of Ugandan hoops makes the Titans the most lethal NBL squad on paper.
Of course, there is a huge gap between theory and practice but the Titans should at the very least be expected to win a playoff series this year, something they have never done. In fact, KIU manager Nasser Sserunjogi expects two series wins.
KIU eyeing finals
“We must at least get to the Finals,” said Sserunjogi.
Few will be surprised if they win it all.
Led by the masterful Chris Omanye, KIU already had a decent team in place — albeit one that has lost two-way centre Michael Makiadi to TigerHead Power.
In other words, two or three good additions were bound to put them into contender status.
Yet Malinga, Norman and Soro are not just good additions. You’re talking two legends and a budding star.
“This is the best line-up we have ever had,” conceded Sserunjogi. “It is balanced, experienced and… (basically has everything one need).”
KIU’s stars will be on display tomorrow and Sunday at the UCU Invitational in Mukono, where they will hope to win a second straight preseason title.
