The Saints FC recovered quickly from Sunday’s defeat to Kyambogo by thrashing Paidha Black Angels at Namboole stadium in the FUFA Big League.

The reverse fixture in the first rounded ended in a stalemate and the table leaders followed it up with a resounding home victory.

The Saints were determined to avenge that previous result after they felt the referee wrongly awarded a penalty against them.

And they did just that in fashion as The Saints’ top scorer Kitata Alex netted twice – his second coming from the spot – as Sam Matovu wrapped up a convincing victory with a third.

With seven games left to the end of the season, The Saints look as firm favorites to progress to top-flight football.

They have led the Rwenzori Group of the Big League since the start of the season. If they remain at the top by the season’s end, they will automatically be promoted to the Premier League alongside the table leaders of the second group, the Elgon Group.

The third team for promotion will be got after playoffs.

In their latest game, coach Mark Twinomasiko’s men put up a spirited fight against a Black Angels side that oozed composure.

They will pat themselves on the back for a job well-done after a comfortable victory on home group.

The rout would have started early for the hosts as Fred Kyambadde’s 5th minute effort struck the crossbar.

Shortly after, Matovu Bob was in the right place to collect a deft pass from Rukundo Denis from the right only for his tap to stray wide.

Fifteen minutes into the game, Alex Kitata put the hosts in the lead. He received a nicely weighted pass from Sam Matovu, dribbled his way past his minders and with only the keeper to beat, the striker made no mistake.

Five minutes later, goal-assist Matovu Sam was brought down in the box by the goal stopper and Kitata converted the resulting penalty.

Once, the visitors were almost gifted with respite when an effort hit the bar, moments before The Saints keeper Richard Anyama was drawn out of his comfort zone to save a shot.

But it was all over even before the flip, when Matovu loaded a shot home seven minutes before the break to seal an impressive victory.

The visitors poured their men forward in the second half but they could not recover. The Saints next face Ngora on Saturday.
