UPDF's Wazalendo SACCO AG starts

Unlike the usual concept of planning and strategizing about war and how to safeguard Uganda, delegates chosen from all units of UPDF have gathered in Lugazi National Defence University to discuss money, savings and accountability.


According to Brig. Moses Ssentongo, the chairman of the UPDF savings and credit cooperative society Ltd dubbed—Wazalendo, the objectives of the 9th  annual general meeting is to provided accountability and to create an avenue for the board of directors of Wazalendo to interface with members in the SACCO.

Wazalendo is a Ministry of Defence\UPDF cooperative that enables its members to pool funds together so that they can access affordable loans to engage in productive activities for improving their welfare.

“It [Wazalendo] is line with the National Policy “prosperity for all” and it was registered in September 2005,” Ssentongo said.

The meeting organized under the theme: “Using Technology to Enhance Service Delivery in Wazalendo SACCO,” started on March 18 and will end on March 20.

Ssentongo said the SACCO membership is on a voluntary basis.

“Wazalendo SACCO is the biggest SACCO in Uganda,” he said, revealing that those qualified to be members, include; officers and men of UPDF, staff of Ministry of Defence and family members of the above.
