WELL aware of the stiff rivalry between the two countries, in both the 15s and 7s, the national rugby team coaches have named experienced sides ahead of the Elgon Cup first leg against Kenya on Saturday in Nairobi.

Rugby Cranes coach Peter Magona named his final squad with only Heathens’ hooker Paul Sserunjogi as the only rookie on the team that leaves tomorrow for Nairobi by road courtesy of Queens’ Coach.

Notable on the men’s squad is flanker Robert Sseguya who was out of international fixtures last year due to an arm injury. He has not only proved his worth in the past but also this season when he led Toyota Buffaloes to the Nile Special rugby league final against Heathens.

Team captain Alex Mubiru said, “The coaches named players with character especially in this away game and basing on what I see on training we shall have a fruitful game in Nairobi.”

The women’s coach Brian Makalama also named a 23 member squad with only Jean Nyadoi and Zurah Namatovu as rookies.

The teams including the Rugby Cranes, Lady Rugby Cranes and U-19 are all training in preparation for the Elgon Cup and they are sponsored by Nile Special, Rwenzori Water, UAP Insurance, Queens Coach and Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
