We just completed our ‘Doing Good Day’. This is a Shikun Binui International (SBI) annual programme normally done in the month of March.

This is when we give back to the communities in the countries where we work and Uganda is one of these countries.  We have been constructing roads in Uganda for over a decade.

'Doing Good Day' is in addition to different charitable activities we always do during the year. We believe that part of the company resources should be dedicated for the communities who need our support.

And we believe that every member of the human family has a right to happiness, a chance to live their lives to the full. Together in the same month of the year, therefore, the SBI and our Sister Company Reynolds Construction Company dedicate ourselves to doing charity.

This year, we have given items ranging from sewing machines, tailoring/bakery work tables, chairs, scholastic materials, shoes, school bags and a water tank. We also renovated a children Centre as well as providing lunch nutrition.  Our beneficiaries for this year were; Dwelling Places - a home established for rehabilitation of street children, Little Lights Children Centre – a self-help centre run by the community located in Namuwongo that provides free education to children, and Home Care for Women and Youth Organisation – an organisation located in Gayaza Road established to empower the women and youth with quality practical vocational skills.

In all these, we try to make children the focus of our charitable activities. We recognise that children are our future and giving back to benefit children is an effective way of not only making a difference but impacting their lives and future.

Last year, we renovated the bathroom and toilets at Nsambya babies Home, one of the oldest orphanages in Kampala with an all-round dimension to cater for children that are abandoned, abused, are orphans and children with special needs.

We also renovated the ceiling at the Kireka Home for Children with Special Educational Needs. And supported all the five educational centres to unlock the gifts that God has given them to live positively. And we donated desks and benches at the School for the Deaf – Ntinda, to uplift the good cause of education.

Since doing Good is an annual event, we always select at least one new organisation to donate to. Due to the alarming level of unemployment amongst women and youth, we looked out for organisations that empower this category with practical skills that could be responsive to local and national needs.

Overall, we carry out corporate social responsibility in all areas where we have projects. Our perspective is Uganda as whole. Our initiative is to touch an unlimited number of peoples as much as resources can allow.

For example; we have a continuous project of sustaining Kiboga Hospital operations and we help provide Israeli Doctors whom we assist to serve the Kiboga Community’s health needs. And we are happy to see people get quality medical care and their lives improved.

In all these, our wish is to inspire people to do good. Our continued commitment is to show that positive change is possible in all aspects of life. SBI/RCC believes everyone can do something good for the benefit of others.
