Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has said it will reconsider its relationship with public utility service providers. who abuse the existing road infrastructure and inconvenience the general public.

Water pipes and telecommunication cables are placed within drainage culverts without notifying the agency leading to flooding whenever it rains heavily.

Dan Alinange, the UNRA spokesperson said they are currently unblocking several culverts on national road networks some of which were partly blocked by public utility equipment which were fixed without notifying them.

“There is a spot at Kazinga in Namanve along the Kampala-Jinja highway road that floods whenever it rains. It has been partly attributed to blocked culverts by utility services providers,” said Alinange.

“Maintaining culverts in good condition should be everyone’s responsibility. Let us stop dumping garbage and waste in drainage channels,” Alinange said.
