The Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II is to commission Masengere building commonly known as 'Bulange Plaza' during his birthday celebrations. The building had stalled for over 40 years.

Bulange Plaza was constructed by the former President of Uganda Gen. Idi Amin in 1975 as part of the defense offices but he was ousted before its completion.

Buganda kingdom spokesperson, Dennis Walusimbi, said Masengere is a birthday gift to the Kabaka from his subjects.

Mutebi will be make 60 years, on April 13, 2015. The celebration is to take place at Bulange Mengo.

Unlike the previous years, only a few dignitaries will be allowed in Bulange, while other people will follow the event via giant screens to be placed in different places along the Royal Mile commonly known as Kabaka Njagala Road.

"We want to appreciate all the people who have contributed to this cause," Walusimbi noted.

He said 98 per cent of work is complete with just a few small things left. "We are sure that by the time of the celebrations, everything will have been completed," he said.

A perimeter wall  will be erected to seperate a three-storied commercial building from the main Bulange administration block.

The birthday celebration will be preceded by the annual Kabaka's birthday run, slated for March 12.

"The Kabaka is to flag off the run at Lubiri Palace. We are also going to have medical a camp on the same day to treat people for free on the same day," Walusimbi added.

The charity run aims at raising money to fight against Fistula among women.

He said registration is still ongoing at  Bulange, New Vision offices, Post Bank branches, Muganzirwazza Commercial Plaza in Katwe and at Airtel-Ben Kiwanuka street shop, upon payment of sh10,000.

Walusimbi said they are working together with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Police to make sure every runs smoothly.

The head of Majestic Brands Limited, Daniela Nakayenga said they have designed some items like cups, pens, t-shirts and key holders which people can buy.

The items have been branded with different birthday messages for the Kabaka.
