The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi 11 will flag off the annual Kabaka's birthday run due April 12 in Mengo.

The Kingdom's sports and recreation minister Henry Ssekabembe announced the development at Bulange on Thursday, before he received a sh35m cheque towards the organization of the run from Events Ware House.

The run coincides with the Kabaka's 60th birthday which falls on the same weekend.

Events Ware House CEO Peter Kaggwa and Sales manager Julius Luutu presented the "logistical sponsorship" offer during a press conference at Bulange.

"Apart from the run we will ensure there is good hospitality and we shall ensure there is a big stage, tents, and good sound and lighting sytems on the day. So we encourage all people to come and participate in big numbers," Luutu said.

"The highest standard of civilization always is to team up with corporate establishments like this one when organizing such events because as a kingdom we don't have all the logistics that we need when organizing such big events so I want to thank them for teaming up with the rest in ensuring the event is a success," Ssekambebe stated.

He said just like last year, a big percentage of proceeds from this year's run will also go towards the prevention and treatment of Fistula victims.

"As Buganda cabinet we decided to continue aiding this cause because we felt the sh50m we gave last year was not sufficient enough,"

"I take this opportunity to thank all corporate companies that have so far contributed to the cause and call on many more, and all the kind hearted people to team up with the Kabaka on April 12 for this noble cause," Ssekabembe remarked.

Ssekabembe promised a flawless organization of the run calling on all people "who can, walk or run" to come and participate in the run.

Registration is currently ongoing at Bulange, New Vision offices, Post Bank branches, Muganzirwazza Commercial Plaza in Katwe and at Airtel-Ben Kiwanuka street shop, upon payment of sh10,000. Payment can also be made via mobile money on 0758990221.
