Nakalembe takes early Entebbe Ladies Open lead

ENTEBBE Club's Irene Nakalembe carded 74 gross to set herself on course to winning the Castle Lite Entebbe Ladies Open Golf tournament at Entebbe Club on Friday.

Playing off handicap 6, Nakalembe is three and five strokes ahead of Eva Magala (77 gross), defending champion Monica Ntege and Uganda Ladies Open Champion Flavia Namakula who are second joint third with 79 gross each.

If Nakalembe maintains her composure and goes on to win, it will be the first time that an Entebbe player wins the annual championships for the first time in six years.

Previous winners have all come from outside Entebbe including last year's winner Monica Ntege.

Uganda Golf Club's Jasper Kamukama, Flavia Namakula and Iddi Madina from, Arusha won the earlier editions.

Katy Kabenge, Harriet Kitaka, Meron Kyomugisha and Catherine Pavie Buttner are all in the chasing pack going into the final day of the championship that has to-date attracted the least number of participants.

Close to 120 players in the men subsidiary event are also in action today.
