Prof. Mondo Kagonyera, the Chancellor of Makerere University, has asked the Government to increase funding to research in universities.

“The search for knowledge is no longer vibrant and this is a threat to our education standards in the region. But if people are to devote themselves to a life of research, they need to be facilitated,” Kagonyera said.

He was presiding over the graduation ceremony of students of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in Nakawa on Friday. A total of 1,208 graduated in a number of disciplines including postgraduate, diploma and certificate.

Kagonyera cautioned MUBS against taking on courses at the expense of quality. This comes at a time when MUBS is looking at introducing a number of other courses, especially in the science discipline.

Patrick Bitature, the guest speaker, urged the graduands to look at creating jobs other than seeking employment since jobs are not available.
