The crew of Winnie Akello and Jerphes Lugaizi in a Subaru N4 has withdrawn from the Mbarara rally this weekend citing mechanical problems.


Akello told New Vision on Monday that her car got mechanical problems while training and has decided to order for another car that will be ready before the Jinja rally next month.

"We have decided not to drive in this event and wait for the next event in Jinja when we expect to have a better machine," Akello stated.

Meanwhile the remaining female driver in the Mbarara rally, Liela Blick Mayanja has vowed to give male crews a run for their money this weekend.

Blick who has a male co-driver (Anthony Mugambwa) said that men should be ready for a run for their money.

"I'm ready," Leila stated with confidence.

"I have fixed in a new engine and the car is more powerful and faster and if I have been beating them with a weaker car, what of now," she added.

The Mbarara rally that will cover the districts of Masaka, Lwengo, Lyatonde, Kiruhura and Mbarara starting with a 5km super special stage in Masaka on Saturday a total distance of 368.8km.

The event has attracted top rally crews including Kuku Ranjit, Omar Mayanja, Duncan Mubiru aka Kikankane, the OiLibya sponsored Dr.Ashraf Ahmed and 2014 NRC champion Ronald Ssebuguzi.
