IVAN Baidhu picked five wickets for 14 runs, with Arnold Otwani and Varinder Singh hitting half centuries for Uganda, but it was a tad too late to save the hosts’ Pepsi ICC U-19 World Cup dream from going up in smoke.

This came after Namibia secured a 292 run win against Zambia to ensure that they stay top of the Pepsi ICC Africa U-19 World Cup Pool A qualifier table.

Despite having played two games compared to Uganda’s three, Namibia (+2.964) has a superior run rate compared to Uganda (+2.105) and they will need to be thrashed by Tanzania in their last game on Tuesday for there to be any hope for Uganda to qualify.

After losing their first game against Namibia on Saturday, it came down to Uganda winning all its remaining matches and hoping Namibia falters.

Varinder Singh (70) and Arnold Otwani (52) topscored for Uganda while Tanzania’s Athumani Siwa impressed with the ball to finish with figures of 6/40 runs.
