The body of AIGP Julius Shalita is expected to arrive in the country today aboard Emirates Airline.

The deputy police spokesperson, Polly Namaye, confirmed they expect the body to arrive at Entebe airport at 12:45pm.

Namaye told New Vision that the vigil will take place at Shalita’s home in Nsyambya on the same day (today). Requiem service will take place at All Saints Church Nakasero Friday, she added.

The body will proceed to Nyankukwe village in Mitooma district later on Friday for a vigil at night.

Namaye confirmed the burial will take place on Saturday.

Shalita, a long serving policeman with a distinguished career in the Force, died in New York where he had been posted as a police attaché in the Uganda Embassy.

According to his relatives, he died last Saturday morning in hospital, having succumbed to pneumonia.

Shalita joined the police force on February 1, 1987 as a cadet, having undergone training at the then Police College in Naguru.

He was squad mates with the likes of Edward Ochom, Godfrey Bangirana, Francis Rwego, Elizabeth Kutesa, all AIGPs and Juventine Odoket.

Shalita, who served in the criminal investigations department (CID) headquarters, was among 109 cadets who joined the force in 1987 and rose through the ranks, thanks to his hard work.
