UCA names strong team for U19 Cricket World Cup qualifiers

UGANDA Cricket Association has today named the team that has been selected to represent the country in the Pepsi ICC Africa Under 19 Division 1

UGANDA Cricket Association has today named the team that has been selected to represent the country in the Pepsi ICC Africa Under 19 Division 1 World Cup Qualifiers that begin this Friday.

The Selection Committee chose 14 players and two reserves for the tournament that runs from 25th May to 2nd June. The games will be played at Kyambogo, Lugogo and Entebbe Cricket Ovals.

Uganda, seeking to make its third appearance at the Under 19 World Cup after competing in the 2004 and 2006 versions held in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka respectively, will be captained by Derrick Bakunzi.

The team will be handled Davis Turinawe and his assistant John Trust Mayeku.

8 teams including hosts Uganda will compete for the one available slot for qualification for the ICC Under 19 World Cup slated for United Arab Emirates in 2014. The other teams are neighbours Kenya and Tanzania, Botswana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zambia and Namibia.

Players: Derrick Bakunzi (Capt), Abdalah Lubega, Simon Ssesazi, Faruk Ochimi (Vice Capt), Abdalah Sezooba, Lawrence Ssempijja, Mukaya Uzama, Ivan Baidhu, Mohammed Akmal, Varinder Singh, Emmanuel Hasahya, Simon Ayella, Arnold Otwan, Irishad Suleman.

Reserves: Joseph Oyet, Ivan Kakande.
