US hails Museveni on regional peace

President Yoweri Museveni has met the United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas Greenfield, at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 24th African Union Ordinary Summit of Heads of State in the Ethiopian capital.


Linda Thomas Greenfield congratulated the President on the progress so far regarding the return of peace in the Great Lakes Region and pledged her government’s support, especially on the amicable resolution to the conflict in South Sudan.

President Museveni and his guest also discussed the security situation in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Central African Republic and South Sudan.

In another development, the President also held a meeting with a delegation from the United Arab Emirates, led by their Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Reem Ebrahim El Hashmy.

President Museveni expressed willingness to establish a strategic relationship with the Persian Gulf countries and to explore areas of mutual benefit to the two countries.

Reem Ebrahim El Hashmy informed the President that the United Arab Emirates leader, His Highness Sheikh Kalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, had expressed intention to pay a return visit to Uganda.

President Museveni paid a four-day official working visit to the President of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of the Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Kalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, Capital of the United Arab Emirates in December last year.
