Police in Mityana district have arrested a woman trying to sell her three-week-old baby in order to start up her own business.

Police in Mityana district have arrested a woman trying to sell her three-week-old baby in order to start up her own business.

Christine Atumuhiire, a resident of Madudu village, Mubende district was arrested on Monday after she approached a witch- doctor in Mityana requesting him to buy her baby for ritual sacrifice.

Latiff Zaake, the District Police Commander said Atumuhiire had on several occasions approached the traditional doctor with intent of selling a child to him.

The witch-doctor informed the police about Atumuhiire’s proposal.

They tricked her into believing that the witch-doctor had got the money to buy the baby and then arrested her at a time she expected to seal the deal.

Atumuhiire said she wanted sh20m to enable her operate a small-scale business to earn a living.

On his part, Zaake called upon all traditional doctors to work with police to end ritual sacrifice in the country.
