GEN. David Sejusa, the former coordinator of intelligence services, has appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to release his aides and associates who were allegedly recruiting soldiers from Special Forces Command on his behalf to overthrow the Government before he fled the country.

The four-star general returned to the country last month, ending over one and a half years of self-imposed exile in the UK.

Sejusa fled after writing a letter to the Director General of Internal Security Organization (ISO), Brig. Ronnie Barya, asking him to investigate a purported plot to eliminate military officers opposed to an alleged plot by Museveni to install his son, Brig. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as his successor.

“I hope the due legal process will be followed. These young men have no crimes and they have been in jail for two years now. If there was evidence they would have been sentenced or acquitted,” Sejusa told Journalists at the General Court Martial on Thursday.

Sejusa, who was received at Entebbe International Airport on December 13, 2013 by the same man he asked to investigate the purported threats against military officers, denies having negotiated his return with Government.

Museveni has also said there were no conditions for Sejusa’s return and that he sent Barya to receive him for his safety.

“When I heard that he (Sejusa) wanted to come back I sent three people to meet him in UK. We didn’t buy him an air ticket although we wanted to help. He said he was rich, I don’t know where he got the money,” Museveni said during a recent meeting with Sejusa, Gen. Elly Tumwine and other officials at State House Entebbe.
