D’Mark’s team manager Steven Kawuma has pledged to retain his winning team ahead of the new chess league season that starts starting in April.

Kawuma, who watched his team win a remarkable third National Chess Championship last season, believes there is no need to recruit.

 “We are not going to release any player neither are we going to have any new signings because the team is solid and they are all determined to win,” Kawuma said.

The club’s owner made the remarks the team’s victory party organised over a boat cruise from KK Resort Beach in Gaba to an island over the weekend.

Team skipper Christopher Turyahabwe and dependable players Elijah Emojong, Ivy Amoko, Patrick Kawuma, Bob Bibasa, Walter Okas and Joyce Kabengano are among the 12 players Mutumba expects to rely on for a fourth title.

D’Mark, who are currently the most successful club on the local scene, thumped Mengo 5-0 in the fi nal round of the previous league held at Hotel Africana to win the third title.

D’Mark finished the season with 72 points, three ahead of second placed Sanlam with 69 points in 25 league games.

City Chess Club finished third on the table with 61 points in the league that attracted 25 teams.
