The first aviation expo in Uganda will be held at Kimaka Airfield in Jinja.

The three-day event, which will run from January 15-29, will allow the youth to explore opportunities and careers in aviation.

Capt. Dodd Katendeigwa, the chief executive of Vine Air – the brain behind the expo – says they are targeting the youth between 15 and 22 years.

He explains that participants will get information on the costs and opportunities in Uganda, East African Community and Africa before going to other parts of the world.

There will be presentations on flight crew careers, training, earnings and a one-hour flight experience in the cockpit.

Katendeigwa says currently young people who want to pursue aviation are in the dark and there is a general shortage of skills, with engineers coming from outside the country.

He says many international aviation companies are based in Nairobi partly because of flight connections, which is a big concern for investors.

His appeal to the Government is have the national airline revived.
