The Opposition, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has hailed the Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing a slim cabinet which saves tax payers’ money.

FDC Youth leader Francis Mwijukye said small cabinet and investing money in infrastructure is a better way of managing a Government.

Kenyatta reduced cabinet to 18 ministers from 44 portfolios.

“It is a great move and it indicates that he is indeed a visionary leader who feels for his people and wants to cause development,” he added.

He asked Uganda to borrow a leaf from Kenyatta and downsize cabinet some of whom have already complained of being idle.

Two ministers in the office of the President Vicente Nyanzi and Richard Todwong a told MPs last week that they are redundant and that their offices do not have a vote in the national budget.

Commenting on the International Labour day celebrations set for 1st May, Mwijukye noted that the existing labour laws need to be amended.

“The workers should not celebrate the day but demonstrate to remind the Government of its responsibility of fixing the minimum wage, employment policy so that the rights of workers are protected,” Mwijukye said.

He said workers such as house maids and hotel waitresses were working for food.

He lamented that NRM was filling positions of fallen leaders by family members using it to solicit sympathy votes having lost support at the grass roots.
