KAMPALA - Operatives of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) will continue working throughout the festive season in a move aimed at keeping law and order in the city.

KCCA publicist Peter Kaujju told New Vision that there is need for their law enforcement staff to continue working during the Christmas period up to the turn of the year.

“The law enforcement staff will remain working. They will not rest because they don’t want people to take advantage of their leave to disorganize the city,” he said.

The Authority plans to deploy the officers to work as usual in the different parts of Kampala to monitor the situation, just like the Police Force is doing.

By doing so, KCCA wants to maintain a sense of vigilance to prevent hooligans from vandalizing public property like manhole covers and street lights.

Also, Kaujju warned event organizers against breaking the required rules and regulations before staging concerts throughout this period.

“We hope that those intending to hold concerts have complied with the required rules and regulations. Our operatives will work throughout the night to see if they have done so.”

New Vision has observed that, as is normally in the past, Kampala vendors are taking advantage of the festive season to sell their commodities along the streets.

Many are doing so while on the look-out for KCCA operatives.

In 2011, KCCA banned vendors from operating on pavements and road reserves in the city centre.

The vendors and hawkers were directed to operative in shops or relocate to the different city markets, in a move that was aimed at organizing business in the city.
