Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has challenged corporate companies to emulate Asiatic Sports Centre and Kiboko Group of Companies in support of Uganda’s participation at the 2015 netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

Kadaga made the remarks during the fundraising breakfast she organised for the She Cranes at Hotel Africa on Wednesday.

The Speaker of Parliament was particularly disturbed that only Asiatic Sports and Kiboko attended her breakfast despite inviting nine companies and members of parliament.

“It’s a pleasure to have interested parties like you (Kiboko, Asiatic) on board, who want to see the Ugandan team prosper,” Kadaga said.

She added; “Can you imagine even none of the honourable ministers have bothered to attend yet if the team prospers, they will be the first people to pass a motion. That shows what kind of people we have among us.”

Kadaga was unhappy that other than the Minister of Education and Sports, stakeholders and companies that she had invited such as Sudhir Ruparelia, ENHAS, Crown Beverages, National Housing and Construction, Crane Bank, City Tyres, MTN and Tropical Bank did not consider her invitation.

Asiatic director Singh Karan vowed to cover Uganda Netball Federations (UNF) teams budget on jerseys worth sh50m while Kiboko’s Ramesh Babu boosted the team with sh20m intended to cover part of the team’s travel to the historical event that Uganda last took part in 35 years ago.

The offers according to Kadaga mark a good start to the team’s journey to the event. The hashtag ‘#10k for the She Cranes’ that was initiated by Pamela Ankunda from Ministry of Internal Affairs.
