A team of four Russian multi award winning explorers from the World Encyclopedia of Travel last Saturday set foot in the country for an 18 day scientific sports expedition purposed to position Uganda as the Adventure capital of Africa.

Led by Dr. Alexander M. Fedorchenko the vice President of the Russian National Geographic Society, they will explore extreme record breaking adventures that have never been done before. Among many, such will include rafting at some of the most deadly zones of River Nile in Jinja and rafting over the violent Murchison falls National Park.

While addressing a press conference at Nyonyi Gardens, Kololo last Saturday Fedorchenko said their visit is highly fuelled by a burning argue to let the world know that Uganda like many African Countries is an understated yet outstanding tourism destination.

At the mention of Africa, many across Russia are quick to jump to conclusion that it is a totally dark destination plagued with death, sickness among other.

“Against this background, the prime objective of our visit is to showcase Russia that there is more to African countries like Uganda than misery, as based on first-hand experience.” said Alexander.

Speaking on behalf of the Uganda Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Stephen Asiimwe, Sylvia Kalembe the senior marketing officer delighted that this initiative will subsequently magnetize Russian travelers to Uganda thereby adding value to already existing products like wildlife, nature, historical, mountain climbing among others.

“To achieve this, the team will film all their expeditions and thereafter broadcast it on Russian National Television Channel and World encyclopedia of travel.” Kalembe said.

This approach according to Alexander Zorin 51, an Energy Engineer, also member of the crew will to influence the influx of Russian travelers to Uganda as the two platforms have a strong influence on over 50 million viewers and the Russian Speaking federation as a whole.

According to Priscilla Butagira Reservations Manager of the Africa Great Explorations, a Uganda based tour operator and chief organizer of the visit, the four will also explore Karuma falls, Murchison falls National Park, Budongo forest and Bwindi Impenetrable national park which is one of the UNESCO World heritage site hence of high importance on the international tourism scene.
