Edwin Ekiring has promised to fight on and make it to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, after being crowned the best sports personality for the month of November.

The badminton player was represented by Uganda Badminton Association national coach Gilbert Ofuyuru  as he could not make it for the Nile Special  USPA  monthly dinner that was held at Imperial Royale Hotel  on Thursday.

Ofuyuru is also a coach for Sharing Youth Club, the club that produced Ekiring  and has seen him grow into an international player, who has taken part in two Olympiads and  three Commonwealth Games.

“He is positive that he will make it. He is putting in more effort so that he does not disappoint his fans,” said Ofuyuru.

Ekiring is currently in Botswana, taking part in the Botswana International tournament. On top of the USPA award, Ekiring received sh0.5m courtesy of Nile Breweries.

USPA president Sabiti Muwanga noted that the month of November was more competitive as  it was one of the few months where all the top  performers  managed to get over 400 points. Ekiring beat motor cross’ Max Van Pee,  golfer Flavia Namakula and  Vision Volleyball Club.
