Rita Aliguma has made history by becoming the first female vice president of the Uganda Sports Press Association.


she was named the new Vice President at a monthly meeting by USPA president Sabiti Muwanga.

The constitution gives Muwanga the mandate to name a full executive that will work with the top four that are directly elected by the Uganda Sports Press Association general assembly.

Aliguma, who has had a stint in Television journalism, had her name approved by the monthly assembly unanimously at Imperial Royale Hotel on Monday.

“I am very pleased to have been appointed vice president of this prestigious sports association (USPA). I thank you for your choice and for your trust in me. I will do my best to justify your trust and contribute to USPA,” Aliguma said.

New Vision’s Michael Nsubuga was appointed the assistant treasurer, while Teddy Nakanjakko and Johnson Were will lead the women’s and membership committees respectively.

“We looked at diversity and promotion of an all-inclusive association. We are focussed on training members to become USPA administrators and we believe that we can achieve this,” said Muwanga after naming a full committee.
