FORMER Uganda Rugby Cranes prop and captain Peter Magona has been appointed head coach of the Uganda Rugby national team of 15s with only weeks before the opening of the Bamburi Rugby Super Series.

Magona who captained Uganda during most of the last decade was named on Wednesday to prepare the national side replacing his former boss Yayiro Kasasa who became the Union Director of Coaches. Magona was Kasasa’s assistant. 

Magona will be assisted by Fred Mudola, the forwards coach and Herbert Wafula will take over the back-line coaching of the Uganda Men’s team.

The three have each been offered two year contracts that start 4th May to June 1st. Their first assignment will be the Bamburi Rugby Series.

The other tasks ahead of them are; the Elgon Cup against Kenya in Nairobi and Kampala in June and Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) - Africa Cup 1A Tournament to be hosted by Madagascar in July.
