The Archbishop of the Church of the Province of Uganda, the Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali has asked all Christians not to celebrate Easter by drinking alchohol.

Ntagali said this was a time for all people to repent and rlive lives befitting a real Christian.

“I urge our people not to celebrate by drinking. They should go to church and worship the Lord and return home. This a time to repent and make our homes, offices, schools and business places more enjoyable and suitable to glorify God who gave us the greatest gift of salvation through his Son Jesus Christ,” he noted.

Ntagali said this while delivering his national Easter message at his Provincial Office Namirembe, in Kampala on Thursday.

He said that as the country celebrates this day there are many people who are anxious, worried, frustrated, troubled and without hope and need a new identity through this Easter period.

“There could be social pressures in the country and many people might have lost hope. Many people no longer trust fellow human beings, but let the risen Lord Jesus whose victory over death we are celebrating this Easter give us a new hope,” Ntagali said.

He called on leaders at various levels to desist from the acts of corruption for a better future and a good foundation for future young leaders.

Ntagali said the country desperately needs an environment that will offer equal opportunities to all people regardless of their sex, background, religion, political opinion, tribe or religion.

“Let’s not use religion and political differences to breakdown the country. We should make our country free from evils like- corruption, land grabbing, child sacrifice, witchcraft among others,” he said.

He called on the people to focus on hard work to promote the country’s economic and social development.

“The youth should deist from gambling and all sorts of bad behaviors. Fear the Lord, support your parents and engage in constructive programmes,” he noted.

Ntagali said with a change in attitude and mindset, Uganda will be a better place.
