CHARITY, Wanderers and Kutch Tigers all had a chance to finish top of Group B ahead of the impending UCA T20 League quarterfinals.

In the end, the trio had to settle for a place behind Nile, who held onto top spot even without taking part in Sunday’s action.

Charity, five points adrift of Nile going into their clash with the Tigers, had the best chance to take first place due to their superior net run rate.

But the contest did not exactly go according to plan for Jonathan Sebanja’s side and they succumbed to a four-wicket defeat.

Charity won the toss and opted to bat but they only scored 92/7 in their allotted overs, with Sebanja and Derrick Bakunzi leading the way with 24 and 14 runs respectively.

Ratilal Kerai claimed 3/9 for the Tigers, who took advantage of Charity’s modest score to reach 93/6 in 19 overs.

This victory was the perfect precursor for the Tigers ahead of their afternoon clash with the Wanderers, who had earlier strolled to an eight-wicket win over SKLPS.

However, the Wanderers quickly took the sting out of the match after bowling out the Tigers for 65 in 13.2 overs - Davis Karashani claiming 4/13 and Hum Kayondo 3/10.

But the Tigers almost pulled off the biggest upset of the season after an inspired display of disciplined bowling kept the Wanderers from victory until the penultimate ball of the match.

The Wanderers won by three wickets (Timothy Kayigwa and Hamza Saleh 18 and 15 runs respectively) but chasing 66 runs has rarely been so dramatic.

It means the Wanderers finished second, Charity third and the Tigers fourth.
