Rwandan based golfer Steven Katwiremu returned 33 stable ford points on Saturday to win the Seniors Golf Tournament at Palm Valley Golf and Country Club.

Rwandan based golfer Steven Katwiremu returned 33 stable ford points on Saturday to win the Seniors Golf Tournament at Palm Valley Golf and Country Club.


Abbey Rutta was also in fine form on the day to claim the Gold Category of the over 70 years after carding 32 points, ahead of John Agard who got 26 points.

The Silver category (60-69 yrs) was won by Chris Mutegyeki (31pts) who beat Onyango Matata on count-back while Godfrey Zaribwende was the best in the Bronze category of the 55-59 years.

Other accolades went to John Waigo who produced the best front nine score of 17 points with Ambrose Akandonda taking that of the back nine with 16 points.

Okello Ocero and Onyango Matata won the nearest to the pin and longest drive prizes in the third seniors’ event this year. Sam Zaramba and Ambrose Akandonda won the earlier one played in February at Kitante and in Mbarara in April.

The subsidiary winners included Gideon Kagyenzi (37pts) in group A, Amos Nzeyi (33pts) in group B and Prosper Nambaya (41pts) in group C; with Patrick Mugisha (36pts) and John Kasangaki (32pts) AND Daniel Opwonya finishing as runners up respectively.

Melon Kyomugisha (32pts) beat Monica Ntege on count-back to claim the ladies subsidiary eevent while Ruth Ssali and Lydia Mutesi were the top performers in group B (of the handicap 17-36).

Jinja based professional golfer Said Mawa took the professionals’ category with 68 gross.
