RAKAI - The 38-year-old man, who slipped out of a coma two hours before burial, has died at a hospital where he was receiving medical care, authorities say.

He breathed his last at Kalisizo Hospital early Wednesday.

Zachariah Kasagga, a fisherman at Kasensero, regained consciousness three days after his initial reported death in Kabira sub-county.

Upon receiving the news of his 'death', Kasagga’s relatives in Kabinda village proceeded to dig his grave in preparation for the burial.

The bodaboda (motor) cyclist who was transporting the body, abandoned it along with his motorcycle when he felt Kasagga move and heard him cough.

A few brave mourners discovered that Kasagga had come out of a coma and rushed him to Kalisizo Hospital for treatment.

Kasagga, who was under the care of his mother, Elivania Tebasulwa, died around 6:00am local time, doctors at the hospital said.

Tebasulwa said her son could hardly breathe and had not spoken since his admission.

Efforts to contact Dr. George Waggumburizi, the Kalisizo medical superintendent for a comment were futile as his cellphone number was unavailable.

The death of the ‘resurrected’ man has left many residents sad, with some saying he died with vital information from God.

Family members wailed as they took Kasagga’s body on a pick-up truck to Kabinda village, while his colleagues continued praying, hoping that God would give him another chance at life.
