UGANDA Olympic Committee (UOC) Secretary general Peninah Kabenge has stepped down and will not contest for any post ending speculation that she was going to contest for the presidency against acting president William Blick in elections on March 9 at Kati Kati Restaurant.

In an exclusive interview with New Vision Sport, Kabenge said that she has many other things she wants to concentrate on that will promote her professionally and appealed to the incoming executive work as a team.

“I’m not contesting for any post just because I have a lot on my plate. I have no doubt in Donald Rukare’s competence and if elected as secretary general he will perform,” Kabenge stated.

“It has nothing to do with (Rogers)Ddungu’s issues because he is now nowhere,” she stressed.

She appealed to the incoming executive to put the athletes ahead of personal gain.

Kabenge is currently the President of National University Sports Federation of Uganda (NUSFU), Secretary General of All Africa University Sports Federation, Board member of the international University Sports Federation and Vice President of the International Wood ball Federation.

William Blick (Rugby), Ambrose Tashobya (basketball) and Dennis Galabuzi (Table tennis) were all elected unopposed for the posts of president, Vice President Administration and VP Technical respectively.

Others who were elected unopposed are, Donald Rukare (Swimming), Godfrey Nuwagaba (Athletics) and Dunstan K Nsubuga (Hockey) for the posts of Secretary General, Treasurer and assistant secretary respectively.
