Phillip Obwiny is one of those people whose opinion on a Uganda versus Ghana match counts.

Obwiny scored that memorable winner in 2002 that had the Cranes beat the Black Stars 1-0 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Uganda also faced Ghana in the 2004 qualifiers.

The game in 2002 was one of only two times that Uganda has beaten the West Africans in a football match. Ghana have beaten their east African counterparts six times.

“We have beaten Ghana before and we can do it again this Saturday. All we have to do is get our tactics right,” said Obwiny.

“This is a game where we have to get three points if we are to remain in the race. So, most important, our attack must deliver.”

For starters, Obwiny wants a creative midfield. “For as long as we have three defensive midfielders, we are in trouble. There should be a creative forward moving force in this department.”

He wants a constant supply of balls to strikers Geoffrey Massa and Mike Serumaga or whichever other striker coach Micho Sredojevich will choose.

“With Ghana on the back foot, we shall have scoring chances,” stressed the former Cranes skipper.

The ex-international whose best moments were in defence, however notes that there should also be seriousness in Uganda’s rear guard.

“Ghana’s attack is lethal,” warns Obwiny adding that the Cranes could be torn to shreds if they don’t keep their guard up.

“While our attack struggles to string even three passes, Ghana can put together up to ten uninterrupted touches in a raid. You actually see their goals coming.

He added, “That’s the mark of a good attack.”

Obwiny has called upon the Cranes to first have faith in themselves then a win will be possible.

“Twelve years ago we faced an equally good, if not better, Ghana but we managed to beat them.”

That Black Stars side had names like Sulley Muntari, Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan and Sammy Kuffour.
