A pastor is on the run in Nakasongola district on suspicion of murdering his wife following a domestic quarrel.

The suspect identified as Bernard Bekunda is wanted by the Police for the murder of Peace Tukahumura, recorded as criminal case number CRB 091/13 at Nakasongola Police Station.

Bekunda was a resident of Kabusinde village, in Kakooge Sub County and was a pastor with the United Pentecostal Church International of Uganda.

The deputy police spokesperson Vincent Ssekate in a letter on Tuesday, called on the public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of Bekunda and consequent prosecution.

According to local residents, differences emerged on Sunday February 3 when Tukahumura went for church service without her husband Bekunda.

Upon her return, Bekunda accosted his wife for going to church without his permission. A quarrel then ensued. Neighbors said that although pastor Bekunda was going to church, lately he was no longer very active.

However at night as the couple slept, Bekunda strangled his wife. He then fled, abandoning his four children in the house with their dead mother. The children were aged between 6 months and 8 years. He also reportedly left the children with an unspecified amount of money.

Joseph Nahabwe, the deceased’s father said that he believes that his daughter’s suspected murderer is hiding in Mbarara, Kiruhura district or in Kampala; but cannot hide in his home district of Mitooma.
